Spent installing a SUSE Linux Openexchange server, developing software tools to help integrate it with there current tools, and writing web documentation for the resulting solution. I also helped provide some routine technical support during this time. July-Nov 2006 Oxford Semiconductor, Fixed Contract I worked with the hardware team, testing devices with embedded ARM processors, as well as related silicon and firmware. I performed some testing and debugging on the host/software side for similar devices, making sure that they were supported correctly. I also did some C++ development work on an 'Uploader' application used to program devices FLASH memory with firmware and configuration information, adding support for a new device. Finally I helped out by doing other smaller pieces of hardware, firmware and software testing when required. Due to the nature of my work I was also frequently involved with the system testing team. Hobbies and Interests --------------------- * I am a keen rock climber, and long-term hill walker. I cycle occasionally, and have dabbled in a wide range of other outdoor pursuits. * I also enjoy an eclectic range of music from Lambchop to Jurassic 5 Other Information ----------------- * Computing Skills: Proficient with Unix/Linux as well as Windows. Good knowledge, and plenty of experience with C, C++, Java, Python, HTML, XML, CSS, SQL, PHP, and many other languages. * My interest in programming extends significantly beyond what I have been taught. I have written a number of programs, from a fractal explorer to numerous games. * Full, clean driving license Personal Statement ------------------ My time at the University of Kent has given me a strong practical and theoretical basis for my technical skills, as well as giving me confidence in my own abilities. It taught me the value of commitment to work, as well as to others. I was also an active member of the Mountaineering Society, learning the importance of organization and planning (as well as the skills required to scale cliff-faces). My two periods of employment at Oxford Semiconductor were both broad in scope, and let me develop my working skills both technical and personal. I learnt to work closely with others, both as part of a team and in a less formal basis. I also spent time on technical projects largely unassisted, which has given me the confidence required to work alone when necessary. I was responsible for time critical tasks, and trusted with expensive and fragile hardware as well as full administrative access to key servers.
